Town of Onondaga - average homes price $114,800

This is just to the west of the City of Syracuse and is high up, overlooking the hills of southern Onondaga County. The Onondaga Community College (OCC)is on Onondaga Hill.

Executive housing is available at Brittany Hills and prices are in the $200,000 price range. There is also an abundance of older style homes that sell for $60,000 to $150,000 on average. Homes built on large lots are also available in the Onondaga district in the farming areas.

Shopping is nearby at either Westhill Plaza or the Carousel Mall.

The elementary and middle schools are on Onondaga Hill and the high school in the Westhill area, about 3 or 4 miles away.

Camillus

This historic village is west of Onondaga. Once just a collection of farms, the Camillus area has grown up into a pleasant suburb. It offers many conveniences and still maintains the country feel of open spaces and the charm of old barns dotting the landscape. Just a few miles away is the New York State Fair Grounds where, in addition to the annual State Fair, events take place throughout the year.

Camillus is in the West Genesee School District, one of the largest districts in the area. The West Genny Wildcats boast several strong athletic teams, a tremendous music program including a championship marching band, and challenging academics.

Houses in the Camillus area sell anywhere from about $50,000 to $150,000 and more, and there is some new construction. Older homes on large lots are available. Many of the properties just outside the village limits have wonderful views of this hilly region.

Marcellus

This area lies south of  Lysande and west of Camillus. Skaneateles is close by. Otisco Lake is very near, featuring all sorts of water sports from swimming to fishing. The lake is a favorite summer spot for Marcellus residents. One can buy or rent property right on the lake, and boat and jet ski rentals are available.

The Marcellus schools have a good reputation and are conveniently situated.

Marcellus residents find it convenient to shop at the many quaint gift shops and boutiques in Skaneateles. For groceries and convenience items, Camillus is close by. Marcellus is just a short drive from Carousel Mall, one of the largest in Syracuse.
