Lafayette
This area is south of the City of Syracuse and is the home of the annual Apple Festival. Needless to say, it is also the home of numerous apple orchards! People drive from all over Central New York in the Fall, just to buy home-made apples pies from the local farmers.
Access to the Syracuse downtown area is easy, as LaFayette is on Interstate 81 and the drive to Syracuse is only 10 minutes. For families who want country living but easy access to downtown, this is a good option.
Shopping is limited to village stores or grocery store in nearby Nedrow.
Tully
South of the City of Syracuse, Tully boasts Song Mountain Ski slopes. Hiking, biking, sailing and motor boating are the other main activites in Tully. The school system has a first class reputation and the area is quite lovely. Shopping is limited to village shops but the Carousel Mall is only 20 minutes away on Interstate 81. There is new construction in Tully for around $200,000, plus log homes, old farm houses and victorian homes are also available.
