Manlius Pebble Hill
Manlius Pebble Hill is a highly regarded private school located in Manlius. They run an academically challenging program for first through twelveth grade, with a post-graduate International/13th Year also available. They offer a standard curriculum including foreign language, fine arts, and computer literacy. There are also many extra-curricular activities and athletics for student participation.
The philosophy at MPH is that classes need to stimulate as well as educate. School should foster individuality, not conformity. Students are encouraged to explore and discover, learn from each other, and develop a lifelong love of learning. MPH is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and is chartered by the New York State Board of Regents.
Admissions decisions at MPH are based on committment to academic excellence, cultural and ethnic diversity, and the recognition of special talents. The admissions exam may be taken at any grade level. Also, a scholarship exam is given each year, the results of which are used to distribute merit scholarships.
Christian Brothers Academy
A private Catholic college-preparatory school located in Syracuse, CBA has a reputation for academic excellence. Total enrollment, grades seven through twelve is 740; 60 percent of which are boys and 40 percent girls. This ration of boys to girls is the same in every grade. Class size ranges from 23-27.
Although the school operates under Roman Catholic auspices, qualified students of all faiths are eligible for admission. Admissions decisions are based on performance on the entrance exam and space available. Placement is then partially based on report card grades for the first semester. The curriculum includes English, Social Studies, Religion, Mathematics, Science, and Foreign Language, with Advanced Placement, Honors and Regents level courses available.
The results of such an academically challenging program speak for themselves. CBA has had over 50 National Merit Finalists and Commended students in the last six years. The graduating class of 1998 was 117 strong. 106 of those graduates went on to four-year colleges, 6 to two-year colleges, and 5 to millitary service.
