Syracuse and Central New York is a great place to live and raise a family.
Crime is low, housing costs are affordable, there is culture, recreation of every kind, all levels of excellent education, plus life is easy here!
Traffic jams are rare and limited to the odd delay of a minute or two at rush hour on the main highways out of the city. People from the larger cities laugh at our trafic reports when there is a back-up! They amount to nothing by comparison.
If you ask a Syracuse person how far anything is from a particular location, the answer is always less than 20 minutes and often just 10 minutes. Driving is easy, even in the winter. This is thanks to the excellent job the various townships and the city do with snow plows and salting.
The four seasons are a delight! People come from all over the world to see the Fall leaves changing color and to sample the New York wines. We have at least three ski resports within 20 minutes of the city for the snowy days. Spring is so pretty with the flowers and fresh leaves on the trees and summer an absolute joy.
The many country roads are safe for biking, there are lakes for swimming and sailing, forests for hiking, trails for horse ridng (plus two hunts for the Fall). On top of this, you will see hot air balloons, marathon runers, enthusiastic gardners and people just simply doing nothing but enjoying the great outdoors.
As far as medical issues are concerned, the quality of care in Central New York is such that the hospitalization rate in Syracuse is very low. For more on this subject,
