Lakeside Villages

Cazenovia
This delightful lakeside village southeast of Manlius has long been the place for Syracuse city dwellers to have a summer cottage. These days, many people make the village their year-round home. Houses with good lake frontage cost $300,000 and up for the most part. If you can find a good building lot, the price for the land alone could be $200,000 or more.

Homes in the village off the waterfront can be found for $90,000 up, and there are many attractive properties to be found in the surrounding hills.

Stone Quarry Hill Art Park and Lorenzo Park are two popular places to visit. In the summer there is the Franklin Motor car Festival and a variety of horse events, including carriage driving. Cazenovia has its own Hunt. (They use a scent trail rather than chase an actual fox).

Cazenovia Sailing Club sports its own sandy beach for the little children, while parents elect to sail, motor boat or sun bathe.

The village shops are charming and attract a lot of summer visitors.

Cazenovia College is a four year school and enjoys a good reputation, as do the other schools. They have an excellent equestrian program, amongst other things.

Chittenango
This is a small village near Cazenovia but it has the wonderful Chittenango State Park with Chittenango Falls, --- one of the most dramatic waterfalls in the State of New York.

Cazenovia's private Ski Club is on the border of this town.

For people who work in Canastota or who need quick access to the New York State Thruway, Chittenango is a viable option. The City of Syracuse is about a 20 minute drive.

Skaneateles (average home price $174,600)
Located at the north end of Skaneateles Lake, one of the Finger Lakes, this is another attractive lakeside village. Homes on the Lake cost a small fortune, especially the older, stately homes with huge acreage and majestic columns dressing their facades. There are homes available that are less expensive, and cottages can be found at the south end of the lake for more affordable prices.

There is an abundance of village shopping, but the nearest mall would be Camillus.

Skaneateles was the summer vacation choice for President Clinton and his family in 1999. It has also been favored by many other high profile people over the decades, including Sir Winston Churchill. The Krebs restaurant is just one of the historic establishments in Skaneateles. More details of this and other restaurants can be found on our restaurants page.
