Eastern Suburbs

Fun in the suburbs!

Jamesville
Jamesville is a village between Manlius and Dewitt, and lying southeast of the City of Syracuse. It's claim to fame is the annual Balloon Festival that takes place at Jamesville Beach on the reservoir. The spectacular color of the hot air balloons fills the sky as they launch simultaneously. Tracking vehicles and spectators alike roam the hills of Jamesville and Pompey.

There are a couple of developments in Jamesville which offer easy access to the nearby hospitals and university. They are Double Tree and Crown Pointe where the homes cost $175,000 to $250,000 or thereabouts.

The school district is Jamesville-Dewitt (JD). For statistics and a brief description of the JD school district, click on the "Schools" button on the navigation bar to the left of your screen.

Other sources of recreation in this area southeast of Syracuse are Clarke Reservation State Park, Pratt's Falls in Pompey, swimming and picnics at Jamesville Beach and the tennis courts at the elementary school.

Shopping is limited to small village stores which give Jamesville a quaint, small-town feel. For more extensive shopping, the village of Manlius is nearby with a large grocery store, franchises and other conveniences.

Dewitt (average home price $136,200)
The town of Dewitt includes the village of East Syracuse. More about this in a minute.

Located between Manlius and the City of Syracuse, Dewitt is a very convenient location for anyone who wants to be able to get to the hospitals, university or other downtown Syracuse locations within 10 minutes. The town was settled long ago, so building lots are at a premium and new housing is in the $200,000 price range at least. Older homes in very attractive neighborhoods are a common feature of Dewitt and prices vary from $75,000 to $200,000 or more.

There is an enormous amount of shopping in the Town of Dewitt. Shopping Town Mall is one venue and is located on the Erie Boulevard strip. Wegman's, a world class grocery store, is in Dewitt next to its partner, Chase Pitkins which is an equivalent to Home Depot, which also resides in Dewitt.

As far as culture goes, Dewitt is the home of several Temples and Orthodox Churches and a Mosque within its borders.

Manlius Pebble Hill is a highly respected private school that calls Dewitt home. Jamesville-Dewitt (JD) is the public school system and Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) is the parochial school.

East Syracuse
The village of East Syracuse is in the northern part of Dewitt.

Three of the major Syracuse area employers are in the East Syracuse area. They are Carrier Corporation, part of UTC, Bristol Myers-Squibb, and Time Warner.

Some of the best shopping is found in this area. Retailers include BJ's Wholesale Club, Walmart, Home Depot, Staples, Party Source and many others.

Homes in the East Syracuse area tend to cost from $50,000 to $120,000, though of course there are exceptions.
