There are plenty of parks and other recreation facilities in the Syracuse area. One that serves for year-round activity is Beaver Lake Nature Center in Baldwinsville. Features of the nature center include guided walking tours, canoe tours, films, slide programs, natural historu courses, arts and crafts workshops, cross-country skiing, and snow-shoeing.
Onondaga Lake Park in Liverpool features various types of boating, plus there is enough space in the park for biking, roller-blading, and cross-country skiing. On the other side of Syracuse, in Fayetteville, Green Lakes State Park is a wonderful place for swimming, camping, biking and picnicing. Green Lakes State Park also has a golf course on the grounds.
Pompey, just southeast of Syracuse, is the site of Pratt's Falls Park. A spectacular 137-foot waterfall provides the backdrop for hiking, cross-country skiing, and picnicing.
Syracuse winters are ideal for skiing. The area has several downhill ski slopes and some that combine downhill and cross-country skiing. Song Mountain in Tully features skiing as well as the state's only Alpine Slide. Four Seasons Ski Center in Fayetteville is a great destination for beginning skiers. More advanced skiers will enjoy the challenge of Toggenburg or Labrador. Cross-country skiers should head to Highland Forest to experience a winter wonderland.
Golfers can enjoy Syracuse and indeed the whole Central New York region. In the suburbs to the east of Syracuse, there are Drumlins West and Links at Erie Village. Liverpool Golf and Country Club, Foxfire, and Northern Pines are north and west of the city. And to the south there is Orchard Valley.
